Originally from Rochester, New York, John remained in the south after serving time in the Army during the Viet Nam war, and decided to return to his passion of painting. He then enrolled in the Memphis College of the Arts from which he received his M.F.A. in Painting.
Since graduating, he has enjoyed a successful career doing what he loves, painting, travelling throughout the U.S., Europe, and several trips to India. His work reflects the inspiration taken from various cultures.
In his over 50 year professional career, he has received over 40 major awards for his work. His artwork resides in many prestigious collections including, the City of Memphis Brooks Art Museum, Lannon Art Museum of Palm Beach, the Alice Walton collection, and the AAMCO Corporation's collection. He has owned his own art gallery and continues to sell his work out of several high end galleries. Additionally, he and his former partner founded and taught at The Eureka Springs School of Art which is still very vibrant today.
After reuniting with his high school sweetheart a few years ago, he relocated to, resides and works in his studio in Opelika/Auburn, Alabama.
